Travel to Israel and Palestine- Update

6/16/25

Due to the ongoing military escalation between Israel and Iran, including active airstrikes and retaliatory drone attacks, all travel to Israel and Palestine should be deferred until further notice. Airspace over Israel and Ben Gurion Airport remain closed at this time. The U.S. Department of State has raised the Travel Advisory for Israel and Palestine to a Travelers already in the region should shelter in place, avoid military or government sites, and follow . Be prepared for sudden changes in security conditions, including airspace closures and communication disruptions.  If you have further questions about upcoming travel to the region, email globalsafety@northwestern.edu.

Travel Ban Update

The U.S. government has announced a new travel ban, effective June 9, 2025, restricting entry for citizens of 12 countries: Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen citing national security concerns. Partial restrictions will also apply to travelers from seven additional countries: Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela. Exemptions include lawful permanent residents, dual nationals with citizenship in unaffected countries, and certain individuals traveling for humanitarian or sporting purposes. 色控传媒 travelers from or transiting through affected countries should follow official sources like the  and monitor Newsletters and Updates from 色控传媒's Office of International Student and Scholar Services (OISS).


Tensions between India and Pakistan

Due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, travelers should expect heightened security measures and potential disruptions, including flight delays and cancellations. Sign up for timely security alerts by enrolling the U.S. Department of State  (STEP) and confirm travel plans before proceeding to the airport. On-site, avoid large public gatherings and prominent tourist or religious sites. Monitor local news and remain vigilant for any signs of trouble or unrest.

Travel to Lebanon

U.S. DOS Travel Advisory for  remains a Level 4: Do Not Travel due to “crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, unexploded landmines, and the risk of armed conflict.” All 色控传媒-related travel to Lebanon should be postponed until further notice.
